The 2017 Her Village International Forum with the title "Women: Leading Innovation in a Time of Change" kicked off from March 21-23 in Beijing, and was jointly organized by the Sun Media Group and Her Village Academy.

Meng Xiaosi, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) gave a keynote speech with the theme "Embracing the Spring of the She-Era" at the forum. She said that the change of the new era has promoted the development of the 'her-era', which is also a voice for women reaching their full potential and accelerating the realization of gender equality.

Meng, who also serves as a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), emphasized that whilst female participants are needed in the age of information, women leaders are key.

During the forum, many well-known elites from home and abroad were invited to attend the event, including Edmund Phelps from Columbia University in the U.S., whose latest bestselling book is called Mass Flourishing: How Grassroots Innovation Created Jobs, Challenge, and Change; Yang Lan, well-know Chinese media personality and sponsor of the forum; sci-fi writer Hao Jingfang, who is the winner of the Hugo Award; Dr. Charles Zhang, chairperson and chief executive officer of Sohu.com; Professor Yu Dan from Beijing Normal University; and Sun Jie, chief executive officer of Ctrip.com.

Professor Edmund Phelps, who is also a Nobel Laureate in Economics, suggested the national financial institutions should attach great importance to women's entrepreneurship, with a view to helping more women walk into innovative positions.

Yang Lan, who also serves as president of Sun Media Group, believes that the establishment of gender equality in today's society is not just a voice of equity, but also signifies development and stability.

The Report of Mental Health and Happiness of Chinese Women in 2017 was also released at the forum.
