A symposium on employment, entrepreneurship and career development for Chinese female university graduates was recently held in southeast China's Xiamen University.
The Chinese Women's Research Society (CWRS), as one of the organs providing guidance to the event, sent a congratulatory letter to the symposium.
The letter said that the convening of the conference was tailored for the implementation of the Opinions on the Acceleration of the Construction of Philosophy and Social Sciences with Chinese Characteristics issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which was a practical action for personnel of gender and women's studies embracing the upcoming 19th National Congress of the CPC.
Lin Danya, executive vice-director of the Women's Research and Training Center of Xiamen University, presided over the opening ceremony.
At the event, Lin briefly introduced the practices and achievements of employment and entrepreneurship of female graduates in Xiamen University.
Yuan Suling, vice-president of Fujian Women's Federation, as well as Yang Hongtao, director of the Vocational Capacity-Building Office of the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center, introduced preferential policies and key measurements for promoting female graduates' employment and entrepreneurship respectively in terms of local women's federations and across the country.
A panel discussion on 'female university graduates' employment status, problems and countermeasures' and 'research on the employment and entrepreneurship education and career development of female university graduates' was also carried out on the same day.
Yang Hui, associate researcher of the Women's Studies Institute of China, affiliated to the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), and Bai Jinfeng, vice-director of the Employment Service Center at the Northwest A & F University, respectively made reports on behalf of the two groups on the above topics.
Professor Ye Wenzhen from Fujian Jiangxia University, who also serves as vice-chairperson of the CWRS, concluded by summarizing four characteristics of the symposium, and they include:
- For the research content, the symposium focuses on employment, entrepreneurship and career development of female university graduates from vertical and horizontal perspectives.
- For the research objects, female students from western regions, female doctoral students and female students majoring in engineering are included in the research.
- The symposium also shows a diversified research perspective from international to domestic and from theory to practice, showing a combination of multidisciplinary research achievements.
- For the research teams, participants not only cover scholars and experts, but also include students, working staff from universities, alumni representatives and entrepreneurs.
The symposium aims to thoroughly implement the spirit of the national conference on ideological and political work in colleges and universities, promote innovation and entrepreneurship educational reforms and cultivate more talented persons of mass entrepreneurship and innovation. It is also intended to carry out goals of 'higher qualified employment' and 'guaranteeing women's equal employment rights and opportunities' as proposed in the 13th Five-Year Plan, make further efforts to establish an exchange platform of employment and entrepreneurship for female university graduates, with a view to attracting public attentions to gender issues and enhancing the ability of serving female graduates.
