Daisy: The Commodified Flapper in the Consumer Society

Abstract:Daisyin The Great Gats by seems to possess two contradictory characteristics:she is both adefiant, self-centered Flapper in the Jazz Age, and apassive, weakes capist. This essay seeks to argue, through the an alysis of the Flappers in the consumer society in accordance with Baudrillard'stheory of consumerism, that the reification of women is the fundamental cause of Daisy's "weakness".
