Abstract：Objective To understand the infection status and behavior characteristics of HIV/AIDS and syphilis among female sex workers in Yichang, to provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS for this group. Methods Using a convenient sampling method, a face-to-face questionnaire survey was conducted among female sex workers in Yichang City, and 3~5ml venous blood test was used to detect HIV/AIDS and syphilis. Results A total of 672 female sex workers were investigated, the positive rate of HIV antibody was 0, syphilis antibody were 8, the positive rate of syphilis was 1.19%. The rate of AIDS prevention knowledge awareness was 90.18%, High, medium and low-grade female sex workers HIV/AIDS knowledge awareness rate were 94.19%, 88.46% and 89.40% respectively, the differences had no significant difference(χ~2=3.794, P >0.05). The positive rate of syphilis among the people know and do not know the knowledge of AIDS prevention and treatment were 0.50% and 7.58% respectively, and the difference had statistically significant(P< 0.01). In the last month of sexual service, the positive rate of syphilis among the people adhere to using condoms and did not adhere to using condoms were 0.45% and 2.65% respectively, the difference had significant difference(χ~2=4.474, P< 0.05). The positive rate of syphilis was not statistically significant in the female sex workers who whether or not used condoms when providing sexual services or having sex with a fixed partner in the last time, either whether or not insist on using condoms when having sex with a fixed partner in the last month. Conclusion AIDS and STD prevention and control of female sex workers in Yichang city has achieved remarkable results, but lack of knowledge of AIDS prevention and control, low of condom using rate are still high risk factors for HIV / AIDS infection. We should take sustainable and effective intervention measures to prevent and reduce AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases through sexual behavior transmission.
