Referential Terms and Interpersonal Relations in The Color Purple

Abstract:This paper systematically analyzes the patterns of referential terms in the novel The Color Purple and the identities constructed accordingly. It concludes that Alice Walker intentionally employs many strategies in the use of referential terms and by them expresses themes of racial depression, sex discrimination, religious conflicts and black lesbianism.
